Find your personal legend: what do you love to do and how to do it?

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life

– Confucius

The dream of doing what you love to do is tempting. Almost every philosopher and personal development guru has stressed this point. Even Steve Jobs said this in his famous Stanford convocation speech-“You’ve got to find what you love. Keep looking, don’t settle”( You can read the full speech here or watch here). However, when someone tries to pursue his passion, he encounters a range of obstacles which can make his life a living hell. Therefore, not many people realize their dreams. They settle.

WHY?WHY CAN’T WE FOLLOW OUR HEART AND GET HANDSOME SALARY TOO?

IS IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DO WHAT YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT?

I’ve pondered over this question. I’ve gone through the cycle of dreaming-doing-failing so many times I thought it was impossible to find joy in work. But I never gave up. I kept on trying in any way I could to get to do something closer to my interests. Over time my path became more and more clear. Only when I let go of my insecurities and presumptions about the kind of work I would love to do, I found what my destiny was.

I’m trying to be as practical as possible, not philosophical. I don’t have the complete answer but I know some of the factors because I faced them. I want to tell you about them. I want to tell you that it is possible to follow your passion. Because I know that you can follow your heart. However, opportunities may not arrive from the front door. They are often disguised in forms you recognize as obstacles and this is why most of us fail.

I have a lot to say on this matter and I know it is both tiresome for me and unproductive for you to read in one go. Therefore I have decided to post one tip about following your passion every week, Tuesdays.

You can find all of these tips listed here in one page. I hope you find them useful. Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments.
